The Tunnel

There is so much to be said about this painting! I truly was the Lord's vessel for this creation. I thought that my day of painting was over but found that there was still one more to be completed. He had me mix the colors and directed each brush stroke. When I saw what it was that I was painting, I literally knelt down before it and cried.

Then, when I thought that we were finished, He had me take the smallest, finest brush that I had and lay each fine stroke into the corner, which became the angel that is beginining to come into view. Then He had me mix gold paint and told me to paint what looked like random strokes in the very center. When I was finished, he had me lightly brush it out to mix in with the blue background. This becomes the face of Christ when viewed at the perfect angle, and in the right light. The result is this one of a kind, original that leaves me breathless every time I look at it.

It represents the Tunnel that so many near-death accounts tell of and I experienced as well. The color of violet is the same as that of the room that I saw. The tunnel is short, but depicts that we need not be afraid of our own mortality...and that the best is yet to come!

I won't be quick to let this one go but I'd love to know your thoughts.

How it Began

What would you do if one day, you just woke up and knew how to paint? And I mean "how" to paint.
  • How to blend the colors correctly on the canvas
  • Which brush to use for a given subject
  • Which knife to use for a certain effect
  • Techniques in brush strokes
  • Precise ways to build texture
  • How to paint so the colors and rich, and in a way, that the painting will change its characteristics in different light

What if every day when you woke up, you saw a new image in your mind, and you knew exactly how to paint it? Would you change your life? Would you consider it to be a gift? How would you use this new gift for the benefit of others?

Well...this is what has happened to me!

Many times, I stand back from a completed canvas, and I too am in awe of this gift. Granted I am still exploring the depth and breadth of it all means, and how best to harness this energy -- or better said, to let it guide me. Many times, I am overwhelmed as I ask myself, "What does all of this mean?"

I know that there are no specific answers to these questions. So, I'm just going with it now. I realize that each day is so precious to you and I, and that we will never have this day again. So, I am using this gift to the best of my abilities.

Creative works have now become my full time endeavor. It's not unusual for me to be up at three o'clock in the morning, composing music, or finishing a painting. Many times I will awaken to find three or more images in my mind that I need to paint. In one day, last November, I painted five paintings!

Usually I won't paint from a picture. If I do, then it becomes my own version of that place, with different buildings, or trees, or maybe with a lake instead of a stream, etc..

And, because of my efforts, and by following this "calling," many others are becoming blessed as well. The number of visitors to my web site www.mcombs.com increases significantly every day, as do the orders. Perhaps they are coming for hope and inspiration, or maybe out of a bit of curiousity. As of now, these paintings are hanging in homes and offices coast to coast. The music is being heard around the world. I hear back from so many others who have done something to change their own life in some way.

So...the story continues for you and I. Our paths have crossed here, right now...at this place. I acknowledge that everything is moving to it's appointed place, so I hope that you find peace and wonderment here.

Feel free to look at my works...indeed, I have a hard time saying that they are from me. As you browse, note the various styles and techniques, it really is amazing! If there is a painting that is pulling at you for some reason, let me know. I'm always excited to hear from you.

Have a wonderful day, and make it a point to go out and make just one person feel special today.
